Your Creative I.D. by Robyn Dykstra

The Well Ministry for Creatives Today not Tomorrow

There’s a call on your life. God given. Purpose driven. Undeniable. So what’s next?

If you’re like most creatives, it’s nigh on impossible to market yourself effectively. When someone at a party asks what you do, you either over-explain it till their eyes glaze over or under-explain your important work with one sentence. “I’m an artist/writer/speaker.”

Face it, self-promotion feels icky and sleazy. But being unable to clearly describe what you do for whom and why it’s important handicaps you from finding the right clients.

Without clarity about who you want to serve and exactly how you can help them, it’s easy for you to become overwhelmed by the work load and frustrated by lack of buyers.

One of my superpowers is listening to your heart and helping you identify your target market so the product, service or story you offer attracts and serves clients in droves.

Like you, I want everyone to trust God and follow Jesus. As a national Christian Speaker with 30 years of platform experience, I can help you find the right language to explain what you do for whom and why they need your stuff.

It’s an acquired wisdom. Shortly after my speed limit bday (55), my life was suddenly very empty. For decades, I had arranged my life around my kids, my hubz, my home and my job as a dental assistant.

Oh, I did some local speaking – my story of being widowed twice in four years while my children were still so young was a curiosity and I was asked to share it maybe five times a year.

As I told my story, God used it to tell HIS story of love, redemption and fresh starts.

As my confidence grew, I began to share the dark secrets of my past. I’d been a Playboy Bunny and club dancer, but God led me out of that life into one that honored and glorified him.

Listeners found hope in my message. If God could drag me out of that pit, He could dig them out of theirs.

I saw lives change and it was exhilarating! I wanted to do more! But, I didn’t know how. I didn’t have a coach or a guide or even a muse! The years rolled by and I was left wondering if I’d missed my window.

I really wanted to do more speaking. To share my testimony and teaching and remind everyone, It’s never too late for a fresh start with Jesus!

Then, that voice in my head started telling me all the reasons my dream of becoming a real speaker was forfeit.

  • Too old.
  • Too late.
  • Not published.
  • No online presence.
  • Didn’t know anyone famous.

Instead of praying or researching or seeking help, I moaned and groaned and whined about how I’d make everyone else’s dreams come true and futures secure.

Whah! Whah! Whah!

About that time, a friend invited me to a conference for speakers. I signed up with fear and trepidation! I am so glad I did. It was life changing!

I found a community of like-minded women and with what I learned, the voices in my head were (mostly) silenced.

That journey began 8 years ago. Today, I’m thrilled to be in full-time ministry as a speaker and author. I present at 40-50 events a year — everything from national conferences to local MOPS groups. I say yes to everything because proclaiming Jesus and teaching His Word is my passion! This is what I was put on the earth to do.

What’s your passion and what are you doing to make it happen?

Listen! This is your time. This is your year to take your message, your story, your teaching out of hiding! Silence the voices in your head. You don’t have to do this alone!

This year is the year you should come to The Well. It’s an honor to be part of the faculty cuz I can assure you this is what you need to do next!
